Unit 28 Task 2

these factors affect site performance on user side
Due to the website being a video hosting/ review site users with a low download speed are going to be put off by the fact their videos will constantly stop and need to buffer if the videos are too long, this can of course be offset by offering to play the video in a series 15 minute parts which would load quicker than a 90 minute movie.

Processor speed will also affect the buffer speed of the videos, low spec processors may not even be able to load the videos at all, and there is nothing that can be done about this however.

Browser is the user’s choice on whether to use Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc. Google sites for example work better on Chrome than other browsers, and Chrome is also believed to be the fastest browser currently.

these factors affect site performance on server side
Web server capacity refers to the amount of data that a particular web server has available for use. Privately owned servers charge money per byte used to store information, MP3 and video files tend to be larger than most image and text documents and as such video hosting site like YouTube would cost a lot of money to run. As YouTube is owned by Google, the cost is negated by the fact Google owns the servers anyway.

A web ‘hit’ is a request to a server for a file.  When a web page is uploaded from a server the number of "hits" or "page hits" is equal to the number of files requested. Therefore, one page load does not always equal one hit because often pages are made up of other images and other files which stack up the number of hits counted. Because one page load does not equal one hit it is an inaccurate measure of a website's popularity or web traffic.

Unit 28 Task 1

Once a website is made, a person has to buy a hosting server to put the site on. This server saves the site and allows anyone on the internet access to the site through a unique IP address. The owner of the site gets a domain name register; this saves users a lot of hassle as instead of typing an entire IP code, they can instead use a simpler address such as www.google.com.

There are three types of Internet service providers; direct access ISPs, which directly connect clients to the Internet using copper wires, wireless or fibre-optic connections, and Hosting ISPs which lease server space to smaller businesses and other people. Transit ISPs provide large amounts of bandwidth for connecting hosting ISPs to access ISPs.

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data centre.
A domain is a group of interconnected computers that maintain accounts and its own security locally, all account logins are done within the domain, and each account has its own file and application servers. In larger companies, there may be several isolated domains, one for each department e.g. an accounting domain, a database domain, and an administrative domain.

A domain name registrar is an organization or commercial entity that manages the reservation of Internet domain names. A domain name registrar must be accredited by a generic top-level domain (gTLD) registry and/or a country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registry. The management is done in accordance with the guidelines of the designated domain name registries and to offer such services to the public.

The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3, commonly known as the Web), is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia, and navigate between them via hyperlinks.
